The Houston Rockets and Royce White have been at odds over the management of his anxiety disorder since the beginning of the training camp. And going down the road the situation doesn?t seem to get any better.
Although Royce White has an opportunity here to live his dream if he cooperates with the Houston Rockets, it is unlikely that the man who became an overnight national figure for people with anxiety disorder and mental issues will put preference on anything over his health.
"At no point will I compromise my health in the interest of business," declared Royce White in a recent interview with ESPN?s Colleen Dominguez.
The Houston Rockets had been aware of Royce White?s anxiety disorder, but decided he was worth the risk to be drafted 16th overall in June. Although Royce White and the Houston Rockets apparently started off on an understanding that the rookie who is afraid of flying as part of his anxiety disorder will travel by bus to certain road games this season, the rift between the two parties seems to be growing wider. Royce White even called out the Houston Rockets for being ?inconsistent? in their assurance to help him deal with his anxiety disorder.
So, Royce White intends to be upfront with the Houston Rockets regarding his next move if the situation keeps escalating and has a meeting scheduled with general manager Daryl Morey on Monday.
"I'd rather tell them on the front end and be honest and transparent,? said Royce White, ?and never play again for that than allow me to become one of the stories because I wasn't able to communicate.?
Royce White?s anxiety disorder again became a hot topic after the former
"We all look at the stories that happen later and go, 'Man, you just wish this guy was able to communicate his problems,'? stated Royce White. ?Or you wish somebody would just've talked to him and wished that the communication would've been there.?
"Well now the communication's there and there's still a problem, right? That means the problem isn't us,? continued Royce White. ?The problem is the art of the business, right??
When further questioned if he would sacrifice an NBA career all for the sake of honesty and transparency in his dealings, Royce White replied, ?If that's what it means."
The Houston Rockets are 4-5 so far in Royce White?s absence.
Although Royce White hasn?t been contributing to the team after missing practice and three games this week including the 119-117 overtime loss to Portland Trail Blazers, still the Houston Rockets have no intentions of trading or releasing him yet.
"We are committed to his long-term success and we will continue to support him now and going forward," the Houston Rockets released earlier in a new statement.
