Back from the Edge: Congress approved a plan to end Washington's long drama over the "fiscal cliff" late Tuesday after House Republicans agreed to let taxes rise on the nation's richest households, the Washington Post reports.

Zip Deal: Avis Budget Group Inc. agreed to buy U.S. car-sharing company Zipcar Inc. for $491 million, targeting consumers looking for an alternative to owning their own auto, Bloomberg reports.

Labor Reform: Overhauling Italy's rigid labor rules was supposed to be Mario Monti's flagship reform. Yet six months after their approval the measures seem to be having little effect on hiring, firing or the labor market in general, Reuters reports.
